So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, ‘For three years now I’ve been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven’t found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?’ (Luke 13v7 NIV)
Three years is a long time.
Plenty of time.
For whatever reason no fruit appeared.
The owner wanted it to bear fruit and gave it a chance.
However, enough was enough.
It was using resources that could be better used.
It wasn’t an ornament.
What He wanted wasn’t unreasonable.
It only had one job.
Who or what is the fig tree?
Who is the man taking care of the vineyard?
Who is the owner?
Ask Jesus what this parable might mean for you.
It is more than a story.
It has a spiritual dimension.
