If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and then the Romans will come and take away both our temple and our nation.”
(John 11v48 NIV)
This is true, in part.
Everyone will believe and that is the point.
So they wheel fear in as a motivating factor to justify their actions.
They believed they were doing it for the right reasons.
In the interests of the nation and their culture.
They felt under threat and they went on the attack.
Whenever God pours out His grace there is resistance.
Whether a revival or an outpouring there has always been a kickback.
If you want to follow Jesus there will be resistance in some form or other.
If you want to see Him glorified then I guarantee that you will face challenges.
Probably from where you least expect it.
Even from within yourself.
Don’t be surprised when your friends counsel you and try to talk you out of it.
They may have the best of intentions.
Listen to them but listen to Him more.
Just love everyone deeply.
Don’t reject anyone whether they get you or not.
Listen even if you don’t take their advice.
Honour and bless them but honour God first with your devotion.
